CD-R AND CD-RW WILL DRIVE GROWTH IN CD-R LABELING, CD MEDIA, AND CD STORAGE

The popularity and growth of CD-R and CD-RW technologies, due in large part to their widespread use for music downloads and copying, as well as data storage, is one of the biggest growth drivers for non-electronic computer accessories. VDC believes that CD-R and CD-RW will have a strong impact on the following categories:

- CD-R Labeling. The fastest-growing electronic/electrical computer accessories on a percentage basis will be CD-R labels and CD-R labeling kits. VDC forecasts that CD-R kit shipments will grow at a CAGR of 21%, while CD-R label shipments will grow at a CAGR of 27%, as labeling kit users purchase labels as refills.

- CD Media. U.S. aftermarket shipments of CD-R and CD-RW media are expected to grow at a CAGR of 16%.

- CD Storage. The CD storage segments of the media storage category are expected to show strong growth, relative to other segments of the media storage industry, as users need storage for the CDs they burn.
